VietinBank recommends safe card usage principles

To maximally protect your rights when using the card, Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) issues recommendations on common fraud tactics currently in use.

Impersonating E-commerce Platforms and Major Brands:
Scammers create fake websites, Facebook links, or shopping apps mimicking reputable brands like Shopee and Lazada. They post advertisements with shocking discounts to trick customers into clicking the links, thereby stealing their information.

Impersonating Bank Staff to Offer Card Services:
Individuals posing as VietinBank officials call to offer assistance with activating newly opened cards, waiving annual fees, or increasing credit card limits, aiming to deceive customers into revealing sensitive information.

Fraudulent Promotion Programs:
Scammers impersonate bank officials to announce reward point redemption programs or gift rewards, threatening customers that their points will expire if not acted upon immediately.

Impersonating Card Service Support:
Individuals posing as bank staff call and guide customers through money transfer transactions or ask for information to block/close cards due to suspected fraudulent activity.

Fraudulent schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, exploiting users' complacency or lack of vigilance to steal information and assets. However, with a few simple security principles and proactive card management on VietinBank iPay, you can significantly reduce risks and ensure the safety of your transactions.

SPECIAL NOTE ON NEW SECURITY FEATURES
Starting from October 2025, VietinBank will officially stop printing the CVV code and expiration date directly on the physical international credit cards for individual customers. This is to optimize security and prevent information leakage during in-person transactions.

Please use the “View Card Number” feature directly on the VietinBank iPay digital banking app to look up your card number, expiration date, and CVV code when making online purchases.

PROACTIVELY MANAGE YOUR CARD ON THE VIETINBANK IPAY APP
You can proactively protect your card (under the Card Services section) through 5 simple steps:

  • Adjust the maximum transaction limit to suit your actual spending needs.
  • Adjust the online payment limit and foreign payment limit.
  • Disable the online payment (Online) feature for your credit card when not in use.
  • Use Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and Garmin Pay for transactions that do not require presenting your card.
  • Review card transactions on VietinBank iPay when you detect any unusual activity.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT provide personal information, bank account details, OTP/Smart OTP security codes, card numbers, expiration dates, or CVV codes in any form to anyone, including bank employees. VietinBank will never ask customers to provide this sensitive information over the phone or via links.

CAREFULLY CHECK the information of any advertisement links before clicking on them. Be extremely vigilant with messages, calls, or emails that ask you to scan QR codes or access strange, unverified links.

If you detect any suspicious fraudulent activity, please block your card immediately on the VietinBank iPay app and report it to VietinBank at your nearest transaction point/branch or call the 24/7 support hotline:

  • 1900 558 868 (For all customers)
  • 1800 558 866 (For priority customers)

VietinBank wishes you always have convenient, modern, and secure payment experiences with VietinBank's products and services.
