On September 29, 2023, in Osaka, Japan, the 18th meeting of the VietinBank - MUFG Strategic Cooperation Steering Committee (SC 18) was held under the chairmanship of the two Co-Chairmen of the Steering Committee, Mr. Tran Minh Binh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of VietinBank and Mr. Nobuya Kawasaki - Deputy Head of Global Commercial Banking Division of MUFG.
At the meeting, the members shared, discussed the macroeconomic situation of the banking industry in Vietnam, the business results of VietinBank as well as projects, and business focus areas currently being implemented such as: Medium-term Business Plan (MTBP) 2024 - 2026; Digital Transformation Strategy Consulting Project; Priority Customer Strategy; IT Risk Management...

In addition to familiar cooperation areas such as transaction banking, M&A, cooperation with subsidiaries in the VietinBank ecosystem..., the delegates also discussed about a key component that brings about cooperation benefits, which is corporate customers, including Japanese corporates and multinational corporates outside Japan.
The two banks also reviewed the implemented contents and cooperation orientation in the field of sustainable finance (ESG), as this is a major trend and has been increasingly receiving extensive attention from the business community and the Government of the two countries. A series of proposals and initiatives on cooperation in ESG were discussed, creating a foundation for the two leading banks of the two countries to continue effective cooperation in the coming time.

The SC 18 meeting took place in the context of VietinBank and MUFG celebrating a decade of strategic cooperation (2013 - 2023). Senior leaders of the two banks exchanged views to agree on the strategic cooperation framework in the next 10 years, creating a platform for working groups to promote and bring the relationship between the two banks to the new heights.
